Kenmore, Washington - Sandy passed away unexpectedly on the evening of February 10th. It is unrealistic to think we could begin to encompass all that Sandy was to those whose lives she touched, but we will do our very best to try to honor her here, and in every day moving forward.
Born on November 20, 1944 to Leonard and Nina Miner at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, where she would later return to do her life's work, Sandy was the third of five children. She began her life in the Moorlands (now known as Kenmore) before the family moved to a farm in Everson in Whatcom County, where she attended Meridian School District. Another move would bring Sandy to Woodinville, where she excelled academically at Bothell High School while holding the title of both Queen Majorette and ASB Secretary, graduating in 1962. She would later go on to marry her high school sweetheart, Gene Canniff.
Sandy immersed herself in furthering her education and graduated from both Emmanuel School of Nursing in Portland, OR and Seattle Pacific University, the latter as class valedictorian. She applied her education and dedication to healing others at Swedish Hospital as a nurse, rising to head nurse and finishing out her career as a Kidney Transplant Coordinator. She would later receive an alumni award from Seattle Pacific University in honor of her work.
Sandy married Gene and welcomed his two children into her life in the summer of 1987 on June 6th. They would later be blessed with four grandchildren and spent 33 years collecting memories together; attending car shows and adventuring back and forth to California to spend as much time with their grandkids as possible.
In addition to her extensive career at Swedish and proudly carrying the title of "Best Grandma Ever", Sandy was active in her church and the Bothell United Methodist women's group. She put hours into the craft and preparation of dozens of dolls for the Atlantic Street Center. As if she wasn't busy enough, she somehow found time to make afghans for her neighbors. Her thoughtfulness and care for her neighborhood and community was seemingly endless.
She will be greatly missed by those she left behind: her husband Gene Canniff, stepdaughter Kimberley (Patrick) Madden, stepson Michael Canniff, grandchildren Savannah, Seth, Samuel and Sarah, sisters Nina Martin and Alexa (Charlie) Cruickshank, nieces and nephews Russell and Tad Martin, Jane (Eli) Meadows, Charissa (Troy) and Peter (Rachel) Cruickshank and children, Curt and Scott Wardell, Rob (Judy) and Terry Miner, and numerous cousins in both the U.S. and Canada. Last and littlest, but not least, Gene and Sandy's papillon, Jacob.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Nina Miner, brother Bob Miner, sister Marion Giovacchini, brothers-in-law Gino Giovachinni and Don Martin, and parents-in-law Wyonna and Gerald Canniff.
We invite all who knew and loved Sandy to join us for Live Virtual Memorial at bothellumc.org
Remembrances can be made to Bothell United Methodist Church, 18515 92nd Ave NE, Bothell, WA 98011
