Sandy was born March 3, 1942 in Castroville, TX. She attended the University of Texas and then went on to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned her M.D. and met her husband. One of only four women in her class, she eventually practiced addiction medicine and chronic pain management, offering understanding and compassion to many in their darkest times.
Sandy's pursuits outside of medicine included a keen interest in basket weaving and a lifelong love of the opera. She was well known among friends and family for her kindness, generosity and warmth.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard Counts; and leaves behind three children: Matthew (Kirsten), Sarah, and Leah (Deanna).
The funeral will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Seattle on July 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
