Washington - Suzanne E. Sarason was born in Seattle on June 14, 1957, and died on December 4, 2021 in Olympia Washington. Her parents were Irwin and Barbara Sarason. She had a sister, Jane, and a brother, Donald. Sue also leaves two nieces Natalie, and Gabriela, 3 nephews Joshua, Chris, and Daniel, and sister in law Peggy Sarason.
Suzanne attended Cedar Park Elementary school, The Bush School, Swarthmore College, and the University of Washington Law School.
Her entire career as a lawyer and CPA was spent in the State of Washington Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) where she had just celebrated her 40th anniversary with the Division.
She started as a Securities Examiner and proceeded to a senior position that focused on the assessment of stockbrokers' qualifications and cases of securities fraud.
She was a member of the Washington Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) where her participation spanned decades.
She was also appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney on multiple occasions in connection with federal criminal prosecutions. Sue was also a volunteer mediator through the Dispute Resolution Center of Thurston County.
She also spent multiple years taking Chinese Mandarin courses in case this capability was needed for any work within the Agency.
Sue had a wide variety of interests that included reading, music, the arts, public affairs and cooking and she greatly enjoyed eating at ethnic restaurants. Sue regularly attended Seattle Opera performances, concerts of Early Music Seattle and other chamber and early music organizations.
Every summer, Sue also attended the performances of the Santa Fe Opera and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Her knowledge of literature, classical music, and opera was world class. She was also a member of a noon time fitness group that meant a lot to her.
She was interested and involved in the activities of several Northwest museums. Sue traveled widely and lived in England for a year where she attended Impington Village College.
She also enjoyed everything related to nature, especially the behavior of birds.
She greatly enjoyed visiting the Nisqually area to see its many birds. The Pacific Ocean beaches of Washington and Oregon were great attractions for her.
Her visits to Hawaii and Alaska, and many places in Canada meant a lot to her because of their natural beauty.
Sue cared deeply for her family who appreciated her love and contributions to all of their
lives. Her reliability and thoughtfulness touched family, friends and her work colleagues.
