Theodore LaDoux Jones (Ted) Obituary

Washington - Ted was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Bill and Helen Jones. The family later moved to Capitol Hill where he lived with his older brother Jimmy, younger sister Sandy, and cherished dog Nicky. He spent many happy hours with lifelong buddies Bill Bain, Hank Edmunds, Meade Emery, Poe Fratt, and Snorky Jensen. In the early years, some of this roving crew would ride the trolley to the Seattle Tennis Club, climb the roof of St. Mark's for spitting contests, and manage their bootleg candle factory behind the church. Young Teddy was a skilled marble player and had a comic book collection that was the envy of many.

Ted was a natural athlete and considered by most coaches and players of his era as one of the greatest all-around athletes in the state. While at Garfield High School, he was named All-City quarterback and his high school high-hurdle record still stands. He was an excellent tennis player, golfer, and also loved sailing, crewing with older brother Jimmy on G. Franklin Eddy's classic Sparkman & Stephens racing yawl the Dorade in the late forties.

Ted proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and played on the USMC basketball team. He was in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Washington where he met his spouse of 65 years Debbie Marshall. Together they designed and built many beautiful homes, including the first four-diamond bed and breakfast property in the Pacific Northwest, the original Saratoga Inn on Whidbey Island.

Ted was highly skilled in sales and finished his career with Weyerhaeuser. He was a longtime member of the Seattle Tennis Club and a member of the University Club.

He is survived by his son Ted and his wife Michelle of Boise, his daughter Alden of Spokane, and his sister Sandy of Olympia. He also leaves behind great-grandson Liam Marshall Jones and grandson Garrett Jones and his wife Alicia of Cochrane, Canada, and Garrett's siblings Adeline, Priscilla, Teddy, and Henry Jones.

Ted loved dogs, so we encourage you to donate to the Seattle Humane Society in his memory.
