VA - Seattle native Wayne Wesley Frost died Oct. 4 in Arlington, VA, at age 88. In the 1950s, as a student, Wayne played football for Ballard High, the UW Huskies, then for the UO Ducks in the '58 Rose Bowl. "Wayne did everything he wanted, and he did it well," says his wife, Mercedes. He had a lifelong playful curiosity and became expert in many areas. He was artistic, generous and empathic.
He never forgot his paper route in Ballard, the round-shaped house his mother designed overlooking Golden Gardens, or summers at his grandparents' farm in Ferndale. In 1964 he sold his Seattle interior design business and joined the Peace Corps where he helped a women's artisan cooperative in the backlands of Northeastern Brazil. Later, he met and married Mercedes da Silva in Recife. They lived in Seattle in the 1970s while doing international development consulting, then settled in Virginia where they worked in real estate. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Hazel Frost. He is survived by Mercedes and son Michael of Alexandria, VA, and brother Darrell, of Mesa, AZ. A service is set Sunday, November 9, at 1 pm at the Arlington Presbyterian Church, 918 S. Lincoln St., Suite 1, Arlington, VA. More details of his life are on his Facebook page at wayne.w.frost.
